The Return, Part 2’ (Season 6)
Ebony wanted to access the remaining 4 doors. She wanted to see what other demons could rise for her. Muffled pressed up against Slade he just makes out, “I’m going to see what other Tribes are down here. You coming?” A frail, “I just need a minute,” can be heard from Slade. Ebony moves out from his hold and strokes his upper arm before leaving the room. Going to the 6th door this one had remained closed. It seemed none of the others had entered their 2nd room yet. Ebony’s cogs started whirling away thinking Amber had probably gone all goggly eyed after finding Bray, Lex would be licking the chamber holding Taisan and Salene would probably be jumping out of her skin after seeing her own reflection.
Salene pulled herself together and leapt to the next chamber hoping to see Ryan. She had figured out there was an order here of when people were going missing. Yes KC, Alice and Bray all went missing from when the Techno’s invaded but it’s possible they were used for something else prior to this and were the last additions into this room. Her theory was proved correct as she saw Ryan laid in the next with a VR strip across his face. Salene placed her fingers up against her lips and then pressed them against the glass. 2 more chambers remained, she had to keep it together. Salene couldn’t quite believe her eyes, another not so dead Mall Rat was still alive. It was Danni. The biggest shock of all came for Salene upon reaching the last one. Before passing out, she recognises the boy who was the first to ever leave the Mall Rat’s, Paul.
The 6th room contained the Demon Dogs and the 7th was the Modes. Taking one look at the pristine makeup and hair in the chamber confirmed which tribe it was, it was like Gel 2.0. Ebony at this point was hopeful The Guardian would be kept imprisoned so that just left Bray and Alice to patch things up with but that glimmer of hope quickly evaporated when she saw who laid in the first chamber in the 8th room. It was the leader of the Mosquito’s, Moz. Things had gotten a little bit heated between those two just before the Techno invasion. Ebony quickly headed to the next room. As she entered, a wailing Jack was hurling down the corridor. She blocked him out. Walking into this room Ebony is expecting to see multiple like the previous but just one single chamber was positioned. Another chill ran down her spine, who was this lurking inside? All alone? Ebony’s heart began to race harder and faster. Noticing the ruffled blonde hair and the tightly fitted Techno suit, Ebony recognised it was Jay’s little brother, Ved. She let out a sigh of relief. “I’ve got a few skeletons to face in my closet, but I think you should be alright. The guy that put you here blew himself up!” With Ram and Ved to busy battling in VR, mastermind Mega must of first been creating this whole island of lab Rats. What were these people witnessing underneath the visors? Was there even a way out? She knew it wouldn’t be long until she knew, after all Jack had arrived.
Jack’s feet thumped hard on to the concrete as he bolted along the never-ending corridor, clutching the papers and the tablet. As he got close to the other end his heart sunk. Spotting Ebony entering the final room, Jack screamed. “Nooooo! Ebony no! Stoppp!” Had Ebony split from the others and gone to the last door? Jack as he ran brought his hands up together and prayed. If the other 8 doors had been opened, the Mall Rats were going to have to work fast. Slade emerges from the 4th door. Jack panting hard shrieks out, “Slade tell me it’s just you and Ebony here and you have only opened the door you stand at and the final door I saw Ebony go into!” Slade can hear the panic coming from Jack, he was more squeaky than normal. “Afraid not!”
Jack stopped as he reaches the door containing the Mall Rats. “Slade get Ebony and meet me in here.” Slade darts to the final door to get Ebony whilst Jack flies into the room containing the Mall Rats. Entering the room he looked above the door, the counter had started. On his search on the computer before finding the list of the 9 tribes and who was in each Jack read what it meant if the room was entered without the input code on entry. For every chamber in the room 5 minutes would be added to the counter. With 12 chambers in the room containing the Mall Rats it meant the counter would start with 60 minutes. The counter flicked from 53 to 52. He was too late for someone. KC was gone. He placed the tablet down on top off where KC laid, he had hoped he wouldn’t have to use it but time had got the better off him. He would come back to the tablet later. Jack thrashed over to Alice’s chamber catching sight of Lex sprawled across Taisan’s, Amber in a heap next to Bray’s and Salene’s legs daggling out behind the final chamber. Right now he didn’t need anyone, he had just 2 minutes to save Alice. If he doesn’t bring Alice back to his Ellie, he knows he won’t have a set of balls for much longer. Darting to the end of the chamber holding Alice, Jack didn’t need to look at the contents of the pages he had printed. He had memorised the numbers that had to be inserted for each. The input codes to release the chambers were rather simple. It was the name of who was inside with the number they were sealed for each tribe. Frantically Jack pressed, A L I C E 1 1 the chamber hissed as the lid pried open. It began to ascend higher, Alice had been saved. Jack knew he had to get to work, even though he was keen to jump Alice and plant kisses all over her cheeks. On hearing the hiss, Amber and Lex’s focus was on Jack. Ebony and Slade were stunned upon entering, Jack had figured it out. “Lex, move to the bottom and punch in T A I S A N 1 0. Amber you are to do the same but put in B R A Y 0 8.” Jack was now in between them at the bottom of Cloe’s. C L O E 0 9 was pressed on the keypad. It hissed open at the same time as Bray’s.
Lex clenched his fist and snarled. “Ebony, get your ass over here, I need your help, you know I can’t read,” asked Lex. She rolled her eyes and dashed over to him. “Is there anything you can do?” Lex frowned a little but didn’t react. He needed Ebony right now. The hiss sound released once more. Salene rose to her feet and stumbled forward.
Now these chambers were open, it meant it would give the Mall Rats time to release others and then come back to release the remaining Mall Rats. Jack clears his throat and begins to instruct. “It’s going to take these guys a few minutes to actually open their eyes, so we need to get ourselves into saving the other tribes. Every 5 minutes that passes someone will perish.” Jack took a pause thinking of KC. At this moment in time, he had to not reveal that he hadn’t made it. “Take these.” Jack began to hand out the lists, but before getting to Ebony she had fled the room. He shook his head but continued. “Just like we have done here, type in the person’s name followed by the number they were put in the room.” They all felt reluctant to leave the ones they were dying to reunite with but they knew they had time and had to do right for others too except for Lex who shoved his list on to Slade. Would you expect anything else from the selfish numpty? But then he couldn’t read so it was for the best.
Knowing there wasn’t much time left, Ebony shot back to the final room. Ved was Jay’s brother, after the Mall Rat’s he was the next most important person to save. V E D 0 1 is punched into the keypad, the loud hiss is released. She leans up against the chamber and smiles evilly. She had realised the clock had ticked long enough to take the lives of her enemies; The Guardian and Moz.
Darting out into the other rooms The Mall Rats began to work through the lists. Amber had the list for the Gaian’s but Jack feared Amber would not react quick enough after discovering it was too late for Hawk and there was seconds left to save Mouse. M O U S E 2 1 releases her chamber, Jack let out a sigh of relief with just seconds to go.
As Slade and Ebony didn’t have a sibling or a loved one in the tribe, they continued with the lists. It had only been the people in the first chambers from each tribe that hadn’t made it bar Ved thanks to Ebony and one other from the second chamber in the room of The Chosen, Luke was gone. As Salene pressed the K, time had run out.
As you can imagine the excitement, the tears, the joy and the love that was shared in the moments the Mall Rats were reunited was out of this world. All of the other tribes also revelling in this wonderful moment in the other rooms. However the loss of their leader Jet was particular hard for The Gulls but they knew she wouldn’t want them to feel anger or hatred and be grateful to all be safe and together.
Cloe had awoke before Patsy and as soon as she had they hadn’t stopped hugging. They were interrupted by Ebony. “There is someone else down here you might want to see.” Cloe lost control and excitedly burst out “VED!” Patsy looked at Cloe unsure who this Ved was. She could only assume he was some guy she had fallen for because Cloe had shot out of the room. She didn’t know where he was but her legs carried her into the corridor. She looked left and then right wondering which way to go. As she looked right emerging from the final room, out stepped Ved.
It was like one of those moments you would see in a movie. Both of their faces lit up and they began to run to each other. What’s happening here? For some peculiar reason this seems to be playing out in slow motion… Finally Ved swoops Cloe off her feet into his arms. She wraps her legs around him. Cloe moves her hair out of her face just as Ved’s lips pressed against her. Their mouths widen, twist and turn, tongues lash within. Neither of them coming up for air. The passion was exhilarating.
As Cloe had left Patsy, she found herself stood with Ebony. They had nothing to say to each other. Ebony grunted and joined someone Patsy hadn’t seen before. Not so tall, but defiantly dark and handsome. She then began to look around and was completely overwhelmed to see so many old faces, faces she never thought she would see again. Lex was with Taisan, Amber with Bray, Salene was with Ryan and two unfamiliar younger kids that looked related, Alice with another pair of red headed possible siblings she didn’t recognise and Jack was with Danni. There was also someone else with them but they had their back to her. Jack noticed Patsy now alone so made his way over to her. They swung their arms around each other. “You saved us all Jack, thank you.” Jack edged out of the hug and put his hand on Patsy’s shoulder. “All but one.” His face dropped. “I already know, it’s KC,” uttered Patsy. “Cloe must have told you. Do you wish to say goodbye?” asked Jack. “Sure but we already said goodbye. He came to me just before I woke up. As you may have discovered the whole time we were wired up, we were all stuck in our very own ‘Groundhog Day.’ The same thing over and over which annoyingly involved me singing but then like I said it changed and after he snapped my neck for the millionth time, he twisted it back and said his final goodbye.” Patsy smiled as she placed her hand on the closed chamber containing KC. Jack places his arm over her shoulders and stuttered, “He… he was a cheeky little…” Patsy interjects, “tyke!” They both giggled. “I just hope he got a happy ending too,” exclaimed Patsy. Picking up the tablet he had placed there earlier, Jack slotted it into a small base above the keypad on the bottom of the chamber. Patsy watched him closely as he went. Jack looked up at Patsy and said, “I’m afraid he wouldn’t have, but that will change everything!” The chamber lit up a light blue and a song began to play from the tablet as Cloe and Ved walked in. Cloe stood next to her friend and held her hand. All of The Mall Rats got closer and closer to KC’s chamber.
There was a time when I was alone
No where to go and no place to call home
My only friend was the man in the moon
And even sometimes he would go away too
Then one night, as I closed my eyes
I saw a shadow flying high
He came to me with the sweetest smile
Told me he wanted to talk for a while
He said Peter Pan that’s what they call me
I promise that you’ll never be lonely
And ever since that day
I am a Lost Boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the Woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
Run run Lost Boy, they say to me
Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free
He sprinkled me in pixie dust and told me to believe
Believe in him and believe in me
Together we will fly away in a cloud of green
To your beautiful destiny
As we soared above the town that never loved me
I realized I finally had a family
Soon enough we reached Neverland
Peacefully my feet hit the sand and ever since that day…
I am a Lost Boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the Woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
Run run Lost Boy, they say to me
Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And Lost Boys like me are free
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And Lost Boys like me are free
Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy darlin
Even Captain Hook you are my perfect story book
Neverland I love you so, you are now my home sweet home
Forever a lost boy at last
Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy darlin
Even Captain Hook you are my perfect story book
Neverland I love you so, you are now my home sweet home
Forever a Lost Boy at last
And for always I will say
I am a Lost Boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the Woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
Run run Lost Boy, they say to me
Away from all of reality
Neverland is home to Lost Boys like me
And Lost Boys like me are free
Neverland is home to Lost Boys like me
And Lost Boys like me are free
Such joy had become sadness but KC couldn’t have asked for a better goodbye. The Mall Rats were unaware the song that had played had also played for KC. His last memory. His ending. Erasing the constant loop of purgatory with this allowed him to leave the world in a good place. He found his Neverland.
The tears and sobs gradually softened and groups began to form again. Jack took hold of Patsy and Cloe’s hands and dragged them further down the room. Amber, Mouse and a few others left the room entirely to shred some more tears as Amber placed the tablet into Hawk’s chamber.
Ved edged his way over towards Ebony. A few metres away she was lent against Slade’s chest, she looks up. “He did have a heart after all…” Slade kisses her forehead. “So it seems, but still rotten to the core.” It was all a mystery what Mega’s endgame was down here, but for those who were to never leave, they still managed to get their happy ending. “Gone for someone more your height now I see Ebony,” cheekily interrupted Ved. Ebony moved and stood as tall as she could in front of Ved and prodded him in the chest. “Wind your neck in blondie. You better curb that mouth of yours as I am the reason why you live twinkle toes. Jay and I might not be together because he left me for that zulu knotted tramp but I know what you meant to him. If it wasn’t for me, it may have been too late and you wouldn’t have just had your tonsils cleaned out.” Ved smirks down at Ebony and cracks his head to the left and the right before tapping his hand on Ebony’s head. “There, there that’s a good girl.” He can see Ebony’s stare begin to change, a boot was coming for his leg. He steps back and continues, “Just kidding Ebony. I appreciate you saving me. You’re not as bad as people make you out to be you know.”
Reaching the other end of the room, the girls were puzzled. What or who was it they wondered? As they came closer, the figure spun around to reveal Paul. He held a larger tablet and tapped away. A voice spoke from the device, “Hello sis. This is crazy right? Hello to you to Cloe.” Patsy took hold of Jack’s shoulder to keep up. Never in a million years would she think she would see Paul again. And certainly not hear him speak, or a computerised version at least. He taps the tablet again. “Don’t just stand there. Come and give your brother a hug. And guess what? Whatever you say to me will be analysed by the tablet and display what you say. No more signing required.’ Patsy stepped forward and squeezed Paul tightly. Cloe couldn’t control her tears and it was like he knew, Ved slotted his hand into Cloe’s. Suddenly Jack feels a slap on his butt, as soon he turns his face is pulled into Alice’s bosoms, she wobbles from side to side. “Wait till I get to tell Ellie how her little Jacky-poos was the man of the hour,” bellowed Alice. Muffled sounds came from Jack but it was impossible to hear what he was saying from where his head was buried. Cloe, Ved, Patsy and Paul stood watching giggly like when they were kids.
The following morning the sun was high in the sky and the rays of light glimmered down on to the ocean. There walking on the soft sand were Cloe and Ved. They walked hand in hand along the beach feeling the water trickle around their feet. The wet sand squelching up between their toes. They come to a halt and face each other now taking hold of both hands. Cloe has a glint in her eyes and feels nothing but warmth and excitement within. She had thought this day would never come. With a smile and a little squeeze of his hands she says, “We’re free. This is where we can learn to love again Ved. Our future looks bright.”
Ved smiles back, “I really hope so Cloe.” He plants a kiss on her lips but releases his hands once his lips retract from hers. Ved wasn’t feeling as hopeful and positive like his gurl Cloe. He had to express how he felt to her. “I’m sorry Cloe, but you and I know this world is not much better than the one’s we were wired up too. Call me a pessimist all you want but you know I’m right?”
Ved’s words hit Cloe like a big crashing wave hurdling into shore, but she wasn’t going to allow this. Cloe had belief. She knew they deserved happiness. Enough time had been taken stuck in purgatory. This was the real world. Yes, it wasn’t always hugs and puppies but it was the world she, Ved and all her Mall Rat’s were apart off. This was the reality they knew. This was now their chance to start a new beginning. Life on this island was an opportunity to create a new world without the power and the chaos. This island was their future without any fruitcake Chosen or any Techno whizz’s to ruin it.
Cloe brings her hand up to Ved’s face and wiggles her finger. “Shame on you.” She takes hold of him and forces him down on to the soft sand. Laying on top of him, Cloe stares into her man’s eyes. “You are so wrong mr!” Cloe looms closer to his face and bites his bottom lip.
You can kind of guess how the next hour or several hours played out…
‘Look Into The Future, What Do You See?’ (Season 7)
The cry is strong. Patsy passes the new-born into Cloe’s arms. “It’s a girl,” announced Cloe. “No pessimist’s here, just look at her. She is beautiful just like her mother, good triumphant’s once more” smirked Ved as he nudged their daughter’s little nose. Cloe giggled and looked down at the little bundle of joy. “Welcome to our bright new world, Misty!” Ved places his head on to Cloe’s as they both smile looking down at the newest Mall Rat who one day would be a leader of the tribe, keeping the dream alive.
